Mixed Media Monday

Surprise! It's another bird. For a couple of years I have been collecting ideas and watching videos trying to work up the courage to actually paint and draw on canvas like a real artist.  A few months ago I found some fun sized canvases (5x5)  in the dollar bins at my local big box store, they had pre-printed pictures on them kind of like a paint by number deal, without the numbers or the paints.

Anyway, I picked up a few of them because it didn't feel like a huge commitment if I painted over their designs.  I wouldn't be messing up anything and I could experiment with some of the ideas I had been collecting.  This joyful little bird is the result.

I was reading in the the book of John and found this verse that just seemed to go with him.  Which started me off on a whole other tangent. So this one canvas is turning into a collection of three based on three verses from John chapter 15.  I'll share the others as I finish them.  Until then, choose JOY.

Thanks for stopping by.  Leave me a comment and say hello! I'll talk to you again soon.

Back to School

When it get's to be the end of July I start thinking about the first day of school.  One of my first thoughts is school supplies.  For the last few years our church has collected new backpacks filled with school supplies to pass out to children in the community who's families are not able to purchase everything they need to start school.  I have so much fun picking out a couple of backpacks and filling them with supplies, of course everything is color coordinated!  This year though, they found a place that would help with filling the backpacks so as a family, we just donated a couple of packs with money in the pocket to help pay for the supplies.  Since I didn't get to shop for school supplies this year I put together a little school supply cup for my library aide.  She loves all things purple.  The butterfly theme happened by accident or serendipity I guess.  I found the cute polka dot cup in the dollar bins at target and then just started collecting purple supplies.  When I went to put it all together I had the tape with purple butterflies, the hand sanitizer bottle has butterflies all over the label and I had been playing around with an idea for butterflies on stems.  So this is how it came together.
I was inspired to try making some butterflies after I visited this site in addition one m
Her butterflied just fascinated me I wanted to try to make something similar.  I used stamps and ink and scraps of newspaper for my layers.  I kind of like how they turned out.  I wrapped the wire with floral tape so I could use these in floral arrangements too.
Well I'm off to school, the second day,  hopefully to inspire and encourage more kiddos that reading is fun and the library is a great place to be.  Have a wonderful week.

I'll talk to you again soon.

Felt flower card

I had a few felt flowers left from another project and decided to use them on a thank you card.  These little flowers are so easy to put together that before I knew it I had a good pile of them.  I think they look sweet with all the different layers of stamping, paper, ribbon.

Have a great day and I'll talk to you again soon.

Mini cards

Today it's a set of spring inspired mini cards for tucking into gifts.  Each one is only 1.5 inches square, with it's own little handmade envelope. These little characters stamped up very quickly, then I had to add lots of embellishments. Glitter on their wings, wire antenna, tiny googlie eyes and small glass beads to add a little texture.  Click on the pic to see it up close.  So fun!
I hope you're having a great weekend I'll talk to you again soon.

Fabric Stamping

This is day 17 of my personal creative challenge

Switching gears, or crafts today.  I did a little stamping and coloring on fabric to make these cute little fabric patches.  I'm still in the thinking process about how I'm going to use them.  But for right now, I think they are cute just the way they are.  When I figure it out I'll be sure to share it with all of you.

Have a blessed Sunday tomorrow.  I'll talk to you again soon.

Day 4 personal creative challenge

Day 4, still going.  I think I read somewhere that if you can keep something going for 30 days it becomes a habit.  Hmmm, if I can get in the habit of being creative everyday, think of the other things I might be able to make into a "good" habit!  Something to ponder...

This little note pad and matching paperclip book mark are the start of a series of items I making for gifts.  So as I get more of the kit together I'll post the pictures.  I'm noticing a theme here though.  Snow and snowmen, I think I've been a little inspired by the weather, we did get snow this weekend but the weather folks are predicting another 5 to 8 inches over the next couple of days.  I know several kiddos who are praying for a snowday and I'm thinking a day to sleep in might be nice.  Either way I'm looking forward to a little creative time where I can grab it.

I'll talk to you again soon!

December 2nd day two of personal challenge

Seeing as this is my challenge to myself, I'm taking it slow, slow and steady wins the race, right!?  Anyway, I got a little stamping and coloring done today.  I have a project in mind but it is going to have lots of pieces to it.  So, little bits at a time is what I have in my schedule right now, I'm trying to be creative and productive so nothing gets neglected, you know, like laundry and a hungry DH.
Well, I made it, day two and I was able to carve out a little time to create.  More tomorrow.  Have a great evening and I'll talk to you again soon.

Stamping fun

Hi Everyone,
Well, my lovely summer break is just about over.  I have had so much fun this summer traveling and crafting and there are so many more things I wanted to accomplish.  Ah well, here are a couple of chalkboard clipboards I made this week.  Notice the chipboard letters at the bottom.  I used our wonderful Close to My Heart chipboard alphabets and stamped them with a variety of Close to My Heart background stamps.  I love the way they turned out!
Last two days of summer freedom.  Going to go get crafty.  I'll talk to you again soon.
